A glass of water at Café Sabarsky.

I’ve being seeing wonderful Black and White photos posted by many creative food bloggers for a weekly food blogging event called Black and White Wednesday.  I’ve always wanted to participate and finally have a chance to do so.  This is my submission to Black and White Wednesday — A Culinary Photography Event.  It’s created by Susan of The Well-Seasoned Cook.

I took this photo a long while ago at Café Sabarsky, which is located at the Neue Galerie.  It’s a museum that exhibits early 20th century German and Austrian art and design.  This café (one of two)  serves authentic Viennese specialities and traditional Austrian dishes.   When I met my friend and fellow blogger, Elizabeth of The World Examining Works here, it was one of the coldest days in the city.  We had a good time over hot chocolate with whipped creme and later viewed the museum display.   You can see more photos from the galerie HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Hot chocolate with whipped cream

I mentioned in an earlier post that Elizabeth (The House in Marrakesh) and I stopped at the Viennese inspired café at Neue Galerie.  It reminded us of Merisi’s Vienna for Beginners.  The café serves authentic Viennese specialities, traditional Austrian dishes, and patisserie like strudel and Linzertorte.  An extremely cold day, we both ordered hot chocolate with whipped cream.  Mmmm!  That certainly hit the spot.   Elizabeth ordered ham on country bread with crispy crusts with mustard spread.  Very delicious.

We arrived at the café early and it was a good idea because a short time later, it became crowded.  Hours later, a line formed to dine at there.  Next time, I’ll make sure to go there with a big appetite.
