New York Monday
September 21, 2009 | Filed Under New York Monday

Hi Everyone! I’m back. Sort of. I finally have my new lap top and installed the programs I need. I haven’t really been cooking. As a result, there are no food posts coming up this week. However, I’ve been taking photographs around the city. Here’s something that caught my attention on a quiet sidewalk in Harlem. Anyone know the name of this plant? Is it called Elephant’s Ear? I remember that name from somewhere.
Today, 21 September 2009 is International Day of Peace. It’s a global holiday established by the United Nations and highlights the end of conflict and the promotion of peace. This day reminds me of a song I used to sing as a young girl in summer camp:
Let there be peace on earth
and let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be…
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have true and everlasting peace worldwide? I pray it happens one day.
Have a good week, everyone.
Paz (which means ‘peace’)

It is So good to hear from you. I was wondering just yesterday how things were going…
I cooked today, made chili from tomatoes friends gave me. It was better than expected, very satisfying. I figure it was the perfect food for the first day our furnace kicked on.
Wish summer would last forever, but harvest season is a great reward for other losses this time of year.
Hugs,

Yes, Paz, it is called the Elephant Ear plant. It is a tropical plant & Wikipedia says that the leaves & root (tuber) is edible, but won’t survive if the temperature drops below 50 deg. F or 10 deg. C.
Remember those plants. None of them here in LA.
Looks like East coast fall is shaping up nicely!
Welcome back, dear Paz. I am glad to read you have your new laptop and are getting set up. Thanks for the reminder about the International Day of Peace.
Glad you’re back up and running! Yay!
That’s somebody’s poor houseplant, that they’ve just shoved into the space. No WAY is that thing native to New York! It’s healthy, though.
Amen to that!
Paz in hebrew is Pure Gold. Hope your day is golden, Paz!

Yes , is called elephant’s ear, are very common in Brazilian gardens. The day when the human bean set aside his selfish and vanity, we could live in a a better world
Indeed those are Elephant Ears although here in Florida, they’re usually referred to as Caladiums. They’re lovely and your photo really captures the beauty and seemingly infinite variety of their design.
glad to see you back *bear hug*
You have a very meaningful name, love it!
I’m happy you made it back! Photos of New York are good, even if it’s not food!
Thanks for stopping by, everyone!
