Tag, You’re It! (Meme!)

Rebecca of From Argentina with Love tagged me for this Tag, You’re It! (Meme!). I’m supposed to write 5 facts about myself.  Gee, folks.  This is hard.  There’s not much to write but here it goes…

1.  There’s the time I majored in Classical Studies (and Romance languages) in undergrad college.  I wanted to be an archeologist — a female Indiana Jones.   ;-)

2.  There’s the time that I took tango lessons after seeing the 1997 movie The Tango Lesson.  I thought I’d get a hot, handsome, Latino dance teacher and fall in love, like the movie.  Instead I got this grumpy, unhappy, blonde-haired female American teacher.  Plus I sucked at the tango.  I am NOT a dancer.  I love to watch tango dancers, though.

3.  There’s the time I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons.  Actually, I still do.  I especially enjoyed the  1992-1995 Batman TV (cartoon) series and the 1996-2000 Superman TV (cartoon) series  They don’t show it anymore.  They’re showing a 2004 Batman TV cartoon version.  It’s okay. I’m not crazy about it.  The cartoons they show today, pretty much suck, in my opinion.  I love the 2005 TV series Avator: The Last Airbender.  That’s a cool cartoon, although I haven’t seen that in a long while.  They show it on a cable station.  I don’t have cable.  ;-(

4.  There’s the time when while walking on the streets of NYC, I passed by the likes of Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields, Alec Baldwin, Liam Neeson, Natsha Richardson, the Icelandic singer, Björk (who wore the famous swan dress to the 2001 Oscars awards show) and more.  In the city, I see a lot of celebrities all the time — practically bump into them.  However, I’m not star struck.  I really don’t care if I see them or not.  They put on their pants/skirts one leg at a time, like me.  So, I take look at them but keep walking.  No biggie.

5.  There’s the time, when I was in Egypt,  a very persistent fellow wanted my hand in marriage.  He told me that he’d offer many horses to my family, including a white stallion.  Too bad for him, I don’t know much about horses.  ;-)

Thanks for the tag, Rebecca.

Funny! I love the white stallion, and the tango story, in particular. I wonder how many people signed up for Italian lessons after seeing “Italian for Beginners” and were similarly disappointed …

I took tango lessons a couple of times. The first time was actually in Buenos Aires. It was a group lesson in which the women far outnumbered the men, so my husband was going around offering himself as a partner to each of the partner-less women after he first tried new steps with me. He later said that he never took a dance class in which he was so busy!

About the man in Egypt: can you imagine if you had accepted his proposal of marriage? You might be using a mode of transport in NYC other than the bus and the subway…

I’m up for the meme. You’ll see it soon…ciao, m

Hi Tania: I have to look for Italian for Beginners. I’ve never heard of it. Luckily I’ve been to Italy and wasn’t disappointed. ;-)

Hi Mari: Tango lessons in Buenos Aires sounds divine. Poor Wolf. Sounds like a tough job, but someone had to do it, huh? LOL! And yeah, I may have been using a different form of transportation if I’d accepted that proposal. Now, what was I thinking? I should have accepted.

I went through the archaeology phase too! Not because of IJ, though…I think what started it was finding an arrowhead in the garden :)

Hey there, J: Actually, my interest was formed before Indiana Jonges but I certainly had fun watching the movies. Finding an arrowhead in your garden is pretty cool!

Thanks for playing! I didn’t want to be Indiana Jones, I wanted to be the student in the front row of class with ‘i love you’ written on her eyelids! when I was like,8, I just thought that was the epitome of chic! yikes!

Hi Melissa: Thanks! I was soooo disappointed about my tango teacher. *sigh*

Hey there Meg: I’ve got to go read your answer. Yeah, you should have seen the guy. He was VERY persistent. Maybe I should have looked at his horses first before giving him a response. ;-)

    Thanks for stopping by, all!

LOL! Rebecca, I liked that student. I thought she was VERY creative.

For some reason, I missed your comment earlier. I’m glad I came back to reread the comments.

    Hi, Paz.

What a fun meme. Love your stories. I love cartoons, too, (the good, old ones like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tom & Jerry, etc.) and watch kiddie shows like Arthur every chance I get.

A white stallion! I would have found that hard to resist since I was born horse-crazy.

As for not being star struck, that makes you a true New Yorker. My sister and I have talked about this from time to time. We think that New Yorkers’ taking celebrities in stride is due to a respect for their privacy. I’ll never forget being at Trader Vic’s for dinner with friends one night when I happened to notice Tonight Show host Jack Paar and actor Hans Conried come in. By chance, across that crowded dining room, my eyes and Paar’s met. I slowly nodded my head as a Hello, with a little smile, and he slowly nodded his head with a little smile. That’s about the extent of a New Yorker’s intrusion on a star’s privacy, and I was thrilled.

As for dancing, well, you know me. I gotta dance.
