New York Monday #85: Fire?

August 20, 2007 | Filed Under New York Monday

Well, thankfully, this time there’s no fire here.  When I saw this fire truck, it seemed as if the firefighters had done their job and were getting ready to go back to their station.  One day I saw a firefighter wearing his firefighting gear.  It was so heavy and hot-looking.  I couldn’t imagine anyone wearing all that clothing — from the fire hat to the heavy coat and boots — especially on a hot, humid day, and then racing towards a fire.  But that’s what they do.  They manage to fight the fire and help save lives, homes, and work buildings…

Have a great week, everyone!

Paz

  1. definitely a tough job! Thank you firemen everywhere! :)

  2. A while ago I took a fire prevention and control class and got to hold the water hose: it was something. Firefighters love to talk about their job and also to answer questions about their gear.
    Have a great week.

  3. I was so saddened when I read about the two figherfighters who lost their lives last week down at the Deutsche Bank building.

  4. These guys will always be heroes to me! Nice shots Paz :)

  5. hi Paz,

I showed my hubby your pics of the fire engine the other night and you never guess what happened? That night he dreamt about new york fire engines and there was a guy doing cirus tricks on the back of it!!!

I should not show anymore of your pics, god knows what else his vivid imagination might cunjour up!!!!

  6. Yes, Kat: Thanks to all the firemen, everywhere.

Hi Simona: What a great idea to take a class like that. Life-saving, I think.

Hi Merisi: Yes, it was very, very sad. The funeral service was this week.

Hi Joey: Thanks. Yes, they’re real heroes.

Hi Linda: LOL! Your hubby does have a vivid imagination. Is there a specific pic you’d like me to post. Should I post a picture of something you want him to buy you? LOL!

    Thanks for stopping by, everyone!

  7. What we we do without the firepeople~have a great weekend~

  8. What we-we—–where did that come from? It should have read, What would we do~Sorry about that…..

  9. Are you sure they didn’t just come back from the supermarket???

I frequently see the local firemen shopping at the supermarket near my apartment in full riot gear. The fire truck is parked outside in front of the fire hydrant.

    I guess they gotta eat!

  10. Must be something in the air…I’ve been watching “Rescue Me” on DVD (I don’t have cable. I know, I’m a weirdo). Personally, I think it makes firefighters look like a bunch of crazies. But I’m hooked on the show anyway. The parts where the guys are fighting fires and saving lives is recreated very well, and does give viewers a glimpse into how tough a job firefighting is.

  11. I have been meaning to stop by and look at your blog..and I’m glad I did :) Very nice. I like your photos and the special feature of city pics. I lived most of my life right outside the city in the burbs.

  12. Hi Jan: Yes, what would we do without them?

Hi Ming: LOL! Yes, they do have to eat! I’ve seen them shopping in the grocery story, too.

Hi Mari: I’ve seen Rescue Me a few times. But I don’t have cable so I can’t watch it. I like the show.

Hi Maryann: Welcome and thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you did. ;-)
